Tips before an Interview

Day prior to the interview

 

  • Read the job description and advert thoroughly
  • Ensure you have a good awareness of the company you are applying to
  • Decide which are your key strengths
  • Think concisely about your education/career to date, overview of choices made and how jobs led from one to the next
  • Be prepared to explain any gaps in your CV
  • Think of situations & projects where you demonstrated these strengths & skills
  • Think of examples from your experience for each part of the job description
  • Think about your most recent role and company. Things you liked or didn’t like how you developed the role, your achievements & business goals etc.
  • Think about your future career plans

Interview day!

  • Allow plenty of time to get to the interview
  • Turn off your mobile phone before you start the interview
  • Give a firm handshake to the recruiter
  • Don’t complain and be negative about your current/former employers
  • Be honest and answer briefly to each question
  • If you don’t understand a question, ask politely the recruiter to repeat it
  • If you don’t know the answer to a question, take your time and be honest
  • Be polite and leave the interview in an assured manner, making eye contact and giving a firm handshake
